Here are some of the most important do’s & don’ts with chain blocks...

ALWAYS 

  • Use common sense
  • Ensure suspension hook is secure
  • Check the hook catches are firmly closed
  • Inspect the chain block regularly
  • Ensure load is in line with centre of gravity
  • Replace damaged parts
  • Take up any slack chain
  • Do a test lift for balance & security of load
  • Maintain a firm footing
  • Keep load chain clean/debris free
  • Lubricate chain regularly
  • Make sure the weight of the load is less than the blocks W.L.L

 NEVER 

  • Lift above the rated SWL of the hoist
  • Use if any damage is seen or suspected
  • Adjust or repair block unless qualified to do so
  • Use to lift people
  • Lift loads over the top of people
  • Use to lift heavier loads than you chain blocks W.L.L
  • Use with damaged or distorted chain
  • Try to lengthen the load chain
  • Use a chain block in an inverted position
  • Use chain as a sling.
  • Operate the block beyond the limits of the load chain travel
